The Catering & Hotel Administration Unit is functioning in our eco-friendly lush green sprawling campus at Kuniamuthur with spacious Smart class rooms and seminar halls. Here the students are introduced to the basic principles of cookery and are trained to cook food individually. The first year students are taught the basics of Cooking, Baking and Confectionery.Quantity Training Kitchen
The second year students are trained in this kitchen to prepare various Regional Cuisines. It is here that the students are taught to prepare food in bulk quantities. Preparation of other global cuisines is also taught.Advance Training Kitchen
The final year students work in this kitchen to learn and practice advanced level cookery. International Cuisines like Mexican, Chinese, Thai, Mediterranean etc are prepared to teach them the art of Cooking. Skills like Ice carving, Vegetable carving, Tallow carving, etc are also imparted to the students.Bakery and Confectionery
The students are provided practical training to prepare different varieties of breads, pastries and cakes during their practical hours.
Future will be the days where Service providers will manage with fewer people competent at doing multiple tasks. A Food Service Agent (FSA) will also plan, organize and control operations; cook at table sides, entertain by songs and dance, budget and be accountable for results.
The future FSAs are tutored with the fundamentals of various Hospitality Services in the first year and second year to shape up as professionals and become a strategic player in the success of the food facilities. They are also taught about alcoholic beverages and their proper service.
In the final year, the students are trained on management and empowerment so that they excel in handling the ‘critical incidents’ apart from the day to day twists and turns.
Front Office is the face-lift of any Business House. ‘First impression is the best impression’; this is the magic term that differentiates the hospitality professionals from others. The Professional Gurus do not compromise in transforming the fresh bubbling students to complete personalities.
The students are taught to organize, perform and evaluate the front office functions that are critical to the success of Hospitality Operations and Management. The Front Office professionals have to be adept in multilingual skill including a foreign language. Special efforts are taken by our department to equip the students in Soft Skills to have the confidence to meet the ever increasing challenges.
Hotel Industry is portrayed as ‘Home away from Home’. It is this feel that is inculcated by our House Keeping Department, along with the other pillars of Hospitality, through their motherly attitude of Home Maker. Our Institute has a Guest house having 6 single room and 4 double room similar to the standard of five stat deluxe hotels for the students to train in the art of decoration, bed making, room cleaning and maintenance. This department also has a practical lab to train students in laundry services, stain removal and flower arrangements.
Another feather in the cap of KIHMs is our in-house facilities of 3 spacious, air conditioned Party and Banquet Halls, with lush green lawns skirting our eco-friendly campus. Students have regular opportunity to have in-house training in real-life Programs, Parties, Events Management and various Functions and Celebrations. The notable feature is that the student is paid stipend during such activities, which helps them to meet their Learning expenses partly. As a part of the curriculum students have to undergo Industrial Exposure Training for a semester during the third year in Star Category Hotels or other Hospitality Organizations to hone the realities of hospitality Industry.
The Professionalism of our students in their Attitude and Behaviour is sharpened by exposing them to Seminars, Conferences, and Guest Lectures comprising stalwarts of Hospitality Industry.
For those of our students who are from a foreign country, those who have their parent/s or relatives abroad, or those who wish to go on their own to polish the acquired knowledge and skills, we provide the right platform to fly abroad and come out with flying colors. Identification of an ideal Hospitality Unit and confirmation of a suitable berth for Training will be taken care of by the Institution. MoU with certain foreign Hotels has already been signed for such special assignments, which will make our students more wanted by the competitive business market.
This Training package is optional at students’ own cost. Those students who are not interested can opt for training in India which is on par with any other country.
The regular exposure of our students to Smart classes, Lectures, Discussions, Interactions, Role-plays, In-house & Outdoor Training sessions etc, make them complete and confident to face the challenges of Entrepreneurship and Job market. The market is strewn with plenty of opportunities in the form of Hotel Industry, Tourism, Airlines, Education, Railways, Shipping, Theme Parks, Cinema, Retail, Banks, IT Industry, Sports, etc. A well prepared student need not search for a job. Campus Recruitment and Selection activities will be arranged for. The Hospitality Industry is so vast that students with any level of caliber can get placed on par with their capability.
